Malaysian Gavin Kyle Green beat the odds to make it past the Cut Line at the Volvo China Open after a very fine Day 2 performance.
To be honest, one didn’t expect Asian Tour player Gavin Green to make it past the Cut Line. With fairly good reason. He shot 73 on Day 1, placing him in the wrong end of the leaderboard. But then, golf – as in other sports, too – could spring a surprise or two when one least expected it.
Gavin shot a terrific 5-Under 67 on Day 2, propelling him 75 rungs up the leaderboard! He now stands at T-22 — with 12 others — with a score of 73 67, 4-Under 140.
His countryman Nicholas Fung, however, did not make it. He could not follow up his very good performance at last week’s Panasonic Golf Open Championship in Japan after posting scores of 69 76, 1-Over 145, thus he missed the cut by 2 strokes.
We hope to see Gavin, the reigning Asian Tour No. 1 golfer, shoot low scores again in the next two days. It’s about time (he missed the cut in Morocco, did not do very well in other tournaments) that he gets good positions.
