The BMW Championship is the second last of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
Where 70 players are scrambling for positions to be the Last 30 to proceed to the final event, the TOUR Championship. Where whoever finishes as the No.1 FedEx Cup point player will walk away with a bonus of US$10 million.
Right now, the BMW Championship is underway, Day 1 having been completed. Leading everybody by one shot at 8-Under is Brandt Snedeker. Snedeker, by the way, is last year’s FedEx Cup champion.
Next is Zach Johnson, followed by Tiger Woods, Steve Stricker and Carl Schwartzel at 5-Under, and Masters champion Adam Scott at 4-Under.
For the top few players, winning or not winning this one tournament doesn’t really matter. All they want to be is in Top 5, because only the Top 5 players will have the real, much better chance of winning that US$10 million bonus. But for many others, making it as the Final 30 Players is most important.
At the moment (and the positions will be changing every day!!), it looks like Rory McIlroy (54th), Lee Westwood (41st), and Bubba Watson (35th) won’t make it. Sergio Garcia at No. 25 is still in an unsafe position. Players in the Bottom 5 such as Kevin Stadler (30th) must fight hard and play extremely well. one or two strokes will make lots of difference.
Day 2 will start tonight. So we will see how they progress.
